The ResQ Fund provides financial assistance to pet owners and rescues for spay/neuter and routine veterinary care for cats, dogs and other domestic animals. Additionally, help for pets in life-threatening situations may be available through the ResQ Fund's "Live for David" program for pet owners struggling financially. These services are currently only available to pet owners and rescues in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
Individuals seeking help through the ResQ Fund, or "Live for David" program will need to apply using the application link posted below. Applicants may be required to show financial need, a history of responsible pet ownership, and/or proof of application denial for Care Credit. Please note – contributions are never paid directly to individuals. The ResQ Fund will only send funds directly to the treating veterinarians. Funding for this program is limited. Preference is given to applicants seeking to use funds for spay/neuter and vaccines.
If an applicant needs transportation assistance to receive veterinary care, they may also apply for help through The ResQ Shuttle which provides transportation to a low-cost veterinary clinic for pet owners and rescues.
Once an application is received and reviewed, a ResQ Fund program manager will determine the amount of the grant to the applicant. For spay and neuter, the applicant may be asked to contribute a portion of the cost and/or apply for a coupon from the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County to help further lower the cost. The average grant award will be approximately $100 to cover spay/neuter and recommended vaccines.
For veterinary medical emergencies or other treatments, funds may be available through the "Live for David" program. Grants under this program are currently capped at a $250 maximum award per pet. In the unfortunate event of a serious illness or injury, additional funds may be available to allow pet owners to peacefully and humanely end their beloved pet's suffering.
If medical costs exceed $250 and the pet owner cannot afford to treat their pet, To the ResQ may help pet owners raise additional funds when possible. In extreme cases, the pet owner may be advised to surrender the pet to a rescue in order to save its life.
